Clarkia bottae

Wildflowers Dicots Myrtales Onagraceae Clarkia

Punchbowl godetia, Farewell to Spring.

Blooms in April-July. Seen on most of our trails.

between mono camp and the mercury mine

Most of the flowers have a lighter patch in the center. This can vary considerably in color and size

Clarkias start blooming at the tip of the flowerspike.
Here there are seedpods forming at the tip and
two flowers left at the base.

This white flower was blooming in a patch of normal Clarkias. I assume it is just a color variant. There were two white plants in the midst of a score or more of pink ones. (Seen 22 June 2010, and pretty much every year thereafter on Cold Spring trail)
