More Details

The Chaste Tree is a multi-stemmed shrub or small tree that produces fragrant, blue-violet flowers from mid-summer to early fall. It's a tough, low-maintenance plant that is drought tolerant and attractive to pollinators like bees and butterflies. Once established, it can provide a beautiful, long-lasting display of color and fragrance to any landscape.

Growth rate: Reaches a mature height of 10-20 ft and width of 5-20 ft. Depends on pruning practices for desired size and shape

Pruning: Prune chaste trees in the late winter or early spring before new growth appears to remove any dead or damaged branches, and to shape the tree if necessary.

Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring before new growth appears.

Winter Protection: In zones 5-10, mulch the base of the tree in the fall to protect the roots from winter cold and remove the mulch in the spring when the weather warms up.

Chaste Trees prefer well-drained soil in a location with full sun to partial shade. When planting in the ground, dig a hole twice the size of the root ball and backfill with a mix of soil and compost. Water thoroughly and regularly until established. When planting in a pot, choose a container that is at least 2-3 times the size of the root ball and use well-draining soil. Make sure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. Place the pot in a location with ample sunlight and water regularly, making sure to allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings.

The Chaste Tree, also known as Vitex agnus-castus, prefers full sun and well-draining soil. When planting, it is important to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. During hot and dry weather, it may require more frequent watering. In general, it is recommended to water deeply once a week. However, once established, the tree can tolerate some drought.
