In vivo and in vitro extracted cardiac glycosides of immature seeds (IS) cultures of Thevetia neriifolia Jussieu. and T. thevetioides Kunth. were chemically identified. Calli were grown on modified Murashige & Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 1mg/l 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) +3mg/l kinetin (Kin). The content of cardiac glycosides in IS cultures of T. neriifolia and T. thevetioides were monitored by HPLC. Two major compounds were detected and isolated from IS extracts i.e. digitoxigenin and thevetin B. The different structures of the in vivo and in vitro isolated compounds were verified by means of MS and NMR spectral analysis, as well as those compounds were identified and determined using HPLC technique.

Objective: Present investigation was carried out to determine the cardiac glycoside profile and to quantify the powerful cardiotonic drug peruvoside in the fruit wall of Thevetia neriifolia , Juss a medicinal plant used in indigenous system of medicine since decades. Methods: Shade dried powdered samples were subjected to soxhlet extraction using different solvents, and various forms of cardiac glycosides were analysed in all fractions using TLC plates. Positive samples for peruvoside were subjected to HPTLC fingerprinting on silica gel 60 F 254 plates using chloroform: methanol (8:2v/v) mixture as mobile phase. Results: Fingerprint profile showed the presence of 6-14 cardiac glycosides in all three morphovariat plants. Densitometric analysis at 220 nm showed a peak at Rf 0.67±0.01 to the reference drug peruvoside, and in all samples analysed an identical compound corresponding to peruvoside was eluted within a range of 0.63 to 0.75 with minor variations. It was noticed that peruvos...

Determination of cardiac glycosides in Scilla bifolia (Liliaceae) by two different analytical techniques: Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and High Performance Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-MS)2013 •
In this study was performed chemical analysis on alcoholic extracts of the Scilla bifolia (Liliaceae family) species harvested from spontaneous flora, with the purpose of determining bioactive cardiac glycosides, particularly proscillaridin A. The used analysis techniques were thin layer chromatography (TLC) and high performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS). After performing TLC analysis, the presence of the scillarosides was confirmed, but only in traces, in higher amounts in herba than in bulbs. The presence of proscillaridin A has not been determined in any analysed samples, either before or after hydrolysis by HPLC-MS. Thus, we can conclude that, the bulbs and aerial parts of Scilla bifolia do not contain proscillardin A.

Cardiac glycosides, phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity from plant cell suspension cultures of Thevetia peruviana2017 •

PHARMACOGNOSTIC STANDARDIZATION, PRELIMINARY PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING AND TLC FINGERPRINTING OF THE BARK OF CASCABELA THEVETIA L. Original ArticleObjectives: In this study, systematic pharmacognostic study and preliminary phytochemical screening of the bark of Cascabela thevetia L. were carried out. Methods: The selected plant part was collected, processed and stored in an airtight container. From the bark different pharmacognostic studies like macroscopic and microscopic evaluation, physicochemical parameters, fluorescence analysis were done. Powdered bark was successively extracted by petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and methanol using a Soxhlet apparatus and finally macerated with the hydro-alcoholic solvent system (30:70). The preliminary phytochemical analysis and thin layer chromatography of the extracts were done to find the nature and number of the different phytoconstituents present. Results: Transverse microscopy reveals the presence of crystal oxalate, cork cell, starch granules, vascular bundle, phloem fiber, parenchyma cells, and collenchyma cells. Powder microscopy also showed the presence of cork cell, fiber and calcium oxalate crystal. Results obtained in a different physicochemical analysis like total ash, acid insoluble ash, water soluble ash, alcohol-soluble extractive, water-soluble extractive, and moisture content were 8.67%, 0.83%, 5.33%, 4.53%, 12.27%, and 7.83% respectively. Phytochemical analysis showed the presence of alkaloid, flavonoid, triterpenoid, phytosterol, tannin, saponin, anthraquinone, carbohydrate and fatty acid in the different extracts. TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography) study revealed 4 spots in petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and methanol extracts and 3 spots in the Hydro-alcoholic extract with different solvent systems. Conclusion: The results obtained from the study will provide a reliable basis for identification, purity, and quality of the plant.

A new cardiac glycoside from Alstonia boonei (Apocynaceae)2018 •
The ethyl acetate extract from the stem bark of Alstonia boonei (Apocynaceae) were investigated for highlight its cardiac glycosides components. This has leaded to the isolation and identification of two digitoxigenin derivative. The first one, Evomonoside, was known and the second one, 3b-O-[5(3,4-dihydroxy-5-methyltetrahydrofuran-2-yloxy)digitoxopyranosyl-2-yloxy]-5-en-14b -hydroxy-16b -acryloxydigitoxigenin, was new. Both compounds were isolated for the first time from A. boonei and their structures were established thanks to their spectral data (NMR, MS, IR and UV).

Theveridoside, an iridoid glucoside from Thevetia gaumeri2001 •
In the Yucatan Peninsula there exist more than 800 plants used in the practice of traditional medicine. However, the flora ofthis region has not been significantly explored for its production of biologically active metabolites and the number of phytochemical studies carried out on Yucatecan plant species is limited (Sousa and Cabrera, 1983). One ofthe plants most commonly used in Yucatecan traditional medicine is Thevetia gaumeri Hemsley, commonly known as "k' aanloo" , "sakits", or "campanita" (Argueta Villamar et al., 1994). The latex or resin of the plant is widely used as an antimalarial and to heal wounds; it is also reported to soothe itching or mange, and to be ofuse to treat ulcers, cutaneous eruptions, hemorrhoids, snake bites, tumors, and edemas in general (Pulido Salas and Serralta Peraza, 1993; Mendieta and Del Almo, 1981). Previous investigations of sorne Thevetia spp. report the isolation of cardenolides (Abe et al., 1994), flavonols (...
