The goal was to establish an ecological characterisation of the genus. P. pellucida is a terrestrial species among the African genus of Peperomia. P. molleri is often found terrestrial in the understorey. Most of the species are epiphytes and especially herbaceous. The abundance of the individuals in the low and medium levels of phorophytes shows that life is closely related to humidity. The biotic interactions of the epiphytic species with the mosses have improved their mineral and water uptake. The absence of the members in the hot areas and degraded ecosystems gives reason for the genus to be a bio-indicator. P. pellucida is the only ruderal species while the others are common in sub-mountain and mountain forests. They are abundant between 1000–2500 m. The distribution extends from Senegal to Tanzania with a remarkable abundance in the low Guinean region and Congo basin. Some species are widely distributed; others are restricted to certain phytochoria. Keywords: Altitude; Bio-indicator; Congo basin; Guinea-Congo region; Habitats and phytochoria

The use of no timber forest products in Gbadolite (D.R. Congo): Cola acuminate (P. Beauv.) Schott & Endl. (Malvaceae) and Piper Guineense (Schumach. & Thonn. (Piperaceae) The goal of the present study, carried out in Gbadolite, was to evaluate population’s knowledge of two no timber forest products (NTFP) (Cola acuminata and Piper guineense) in order to establish a database of public utility with the aim of agro-biodiversity. The results obtained indicate that the use and the sale of these two NTFP is a typically male activity. The forest constitutes the principal habitat of these NTFP; the income from these products is mainly affected for children schooling and communities’ survival. The fact that harvest is the prerogative of the men, the collected quantity of these two phytogenetic resources and their management constitutes a challenge in terms of environmental protection in a context of climatic change. Hence, the in situ and/or ex situ conservation of plant species generators o...

Analyse Phytogéographique Des Ptéridophytes D’Afrique Centrale: Cas Des Étages Des Montagnes Du Parc National De Kahuzi-Biega (République Démocratique Du Congo)This study comprises a phytogeographical analysis of forest ferns and their allies of the Kahuzi Biega National Park (KBNP), located in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The phytogeographical and floristic affinities and dissimilarities were investigated for forested areas of the Albertine Rift, Continental Africa and some mountainous areas outside of Africa. This analysis was based on herbarium material collected in the mountains of KBNP (5987 specimens) and housed in various herbaria in Belgium, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Netherlands. The results showed that the majority of ferns in the mountains of the KBNP are also found in many other African areas (52.1% of the flora). Further, 41.9% of the species have a wide distribution outside of Africa, while endemic and sub-endemic species represent a mere 6% of the fern flora of KBNP. Within the related species, some showed a disjunction between the mountainous areas of Cameroon and the PNKB. The mountains of the Ki...

coastal area. Implications concerning soil organic matter dynamics and Abstract - Study of I3C and I4C profiles of a ferralitic soil in the Congolese coastal area indicates that this area which is at present covered by savanna vegetation was forested iii the lower Holocene. Besides, the soil organic matter shows a bi-modal distribution, a plzeiionieiioiz which was previously described in soils of teinperature areas: an eleiizent coinposed with old and stable organic inaiter, and mi eleineiit cornposed with yoling and labile organic matter. The proportion of the latter element iiicreases near the soil suiface.
