My garden is full of big, spreading clumps of this hardy, gorgeous herb, accented with tall purple spikes of flowers. Plectranthus Caninus, often sold as Coleus Canina or Scaredy-Cat Plant, is a very easy-to-root, easy-to-grow herb in the mint family Lamiaceae. (Not edible.)

Once established, this plant is drought-tolerant. It prefers part sun, but I’ve also grown it in shade with decent results. I've never seen aphids or other pests on it. Though hardy, it may not survive harsh frosts without protection.

It has intensely fragrant foliage that smells skunky, like marijuana. Most people aren't bothered by the smell, but it has a reputation for repelling dogs and cats (hence the nickname) and keeping them out of your prized plants. Native to east Africa and south Asia.

I keep bees, and all my plants are grown without pesticides, artificial fertilizers, or any chemical that would harm our pollinator friends. 100% organic!

I am waiting for it to root. In the directions that Jessica left I found out it is best o have some shade on the plant. I did not catch this info when I ordered. It will be in the sun, but I will try to shade it a little from a nearby bush. I hope it lives and does it work.

Just got the clippings in a few days ago. Dropped them in some water and roots started popping a day or so later. Going to give them a few days more but I can't wait to get them in some dirt and have them take off!
