Encephalartos aplanatus

CONSERVATION STATUS:
  • Critically endangered.

CULTIVATION:

  • Semi shade to shade.
  • Regular watering with deep sandy soil and good drainage.
  • Can tolerate light frost.

PROPAGATION:

  • Mainly from seedlings, seldom produce suckers.

NATURAL HABITAT:

  • From Swaziland in the Siteki area.

STEM:

  • Subterranean erect.

LEAVES:

  • Leaves are straight and up to 3.5 m in length in more shady conditions where the
    leaves then recurve gradually downwards.
  • Leaflets are a glossy dark green on the upper side and a paler green on the lower
    side.
  • Leaflets shield one another, are fairly soft and are up to 40 mm wide.

CONES:

  • Cones emerge with a green to dark green colour initially but become bright yellow.
