Iresine diffusa f. herbstii 'Rich Redstar' houseplant
  • Iresine diffusa f. herbstii 'Rich Redstar' is a cultivar of Iresine diffusa f. herbstii (Hook.) Pedersen. It is appreciated above all for the unusual colouring of its leaves. The small, heart-shaped leaves grow on pinkish-maroon petioles. The inner leaf veining is of the same colour, while the leaf blade is much darker, even black in places. The plant grows quite quickly, but it is worth pruning the shoots to force the plant to become more bushy.

The generic name is derived from the Greek word εριος (erios), meaning "wooly", referring to the trichome-covered flowers.
