Cochliasanthus caracalla syn. Phaseolus caracalla, syn. Vigna caracella also known as the Snail Vine is a decorative, evergreen to deciduous vine with soft, dark green trifoliate, bean-like leaves.
During summer to early autumn it produces masses of large purple shaded to yellow flowers which are curled to give a snail-like appearance.
The fragrance of the flowers is said to be similar to the heady nature of Hyacinths
It produces bean pods in autumn.
These plants can go well in pots in cooler climates so they can be brought indoors in winter.
