Description:

Its name comes from the Greek and refers to palms very similar to this species, widely spread in antiquity. They are, in fact, shrubby exemplar formed by a not ramified stem, from whose apex depart ornamental pinnate leaves, very large and spirally arranged like a crown, generating overall an appearance very similar to that of palms. C. siamensis in nature can reach 1 m in height with stems up to 2 meters long. Its leaves are usually semi-glossy dark green, but can also take on different shades of yellow and white, the latter being called "Silver" or "Thai Silver". The flowers of C. siamensis can be male or female; the female flowers have a globose shape and green or reddish shades while the male ones are more elongated, oval, orange or brown and are located at the apex of the plant.

Plant care:

It likes an exposure to full sun in rather airy locations.

They are very resistant to the most extreme temperatures: they grow comfortably in hot climates and resist the temperatures up to -5 °C, though only if the soil is dry.

Water moderately and only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water it once a week in spring and summer, reduce it to once every two months in autumn and to suspend it completely in winter.

The best soil is a well draining and porous one, for example formed by a mix of peat and pumice so that water does not stagnate.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
