This beautifully coloured variety of dwarf bamboo is very hardy considering it is a variegated one. It seldom grows to its mature height 1m as we suggest cutting it every year. The leaves are 2-2,5 cm wide, 18-20 cm long, golden yellow with several shades of green which makes it quite outstanding but still elegant. The bottom of the leaves is covered with fine hair which makes them very resistant to bamboo mite.

It is not as vigorous as other pleioblastus species, owing to its short-running rhizomes. But if you do want to keep it in a certain area of your garden we recommend using root barriers. Leaves are quite hardy but the plant will definitely look best if sheared down to the ground every spring to encourage new and healthy growth.

Bamboo likes fertile, moist but well-drained soil and for best varigation full sun. It is hardy to -22°C (USDA zone 6) but if covered with snow or mulch it can take deeper frost.
