I love all the close-ups. The colors and contrasts are the best up close. I hope to have some more in a couple weeks.

One of my favorites, Aloe rooikappie. Also called red riding hood.

Not really dramatic, but I'm excited. This is the first time my Aloe x spinosissima has bloomed! It's nearly 4 1/2 years old.

Love all the pictures! When the winds die down, I may have to try taking some pictures with greater detail. Great inspiration!

Palmbob, those are some great flowers! My A. petricola is just starting now. I don't remember those cool purple filaments last time. My A. ortholopha has yet to bloom in over 20 years. To much H2O at wrong time of year? Really like the A. immaculata. I lost mine before it ever bloomed. The immature A. kilifiensis flowers are colored somewhat like one of my favorites A. classenii.

don't know the secret with Aloe ortholopha... mine has only bloomed once, though it was only 6 years old. I no longer have that plant (given away during the move out). I have only seen this species bloom once before and it was in full hot sun. Aloe kilifiensis is an odd coloration which is one of the its unique characteristics... otherwise it's just sort of an average maculate aloe. Color is like a coppery coffee coloration, opening into a weird metallic orange (photos don't do it justice).

Palmbob.. check out my splitting up post. It has something fairly unusual to see in SoCal. It was about 25 years in the making.

I had to look really close at that Aloe maculata bloom, palmbob....I couldn't believe that aloe looked so much like a cycad. But the inflo was probably just photographed with one in the background.

I can't believe I missed this thread. Thanks for the experience, kids!
