Rock brevifolia  (Rotsvalsdoring) is a medium/small, deciduous tree with a mushroom-shaped canopy, often formed as a result of its low-branching habit. It has large feather-like leaves and stunning pink/white pin cushion-like flowers. (It seems we are the only source which reports pinkish flowers but the evidence is in the picture below). Albizia brevifolia is fast growing and has non invasive roots. Its large, twice compound leaves provide good shade. Rock Albizia (also named Mountain False Thorn) is somewhat frost sensitive (temperature should not go below -0.5 degrees Celsius). It is fairly water wise.

A few gardening ideas:

Rock albizia is an easy grower, but can be a bit messy in late autumn when it sheds its (fine) leaflets - not a good idea to plant it near a swimming pool.  The tree's striking flowers it an excellent choice for any garden.  Albizia brevifolia's flowers will attract many insects and insect eating birds to the garden. We have no experience relating to planting this species in a large pot, but expect that it will not do well.

Value to honeybees: Nectar, N0-2;  Pollen, P2?;  Flowering months 7-12, (10-11).   (See  blog-post "The bee-value of South Africa's trees" for an explanation of codes)
