Pepper-bark tree is a medium-sized, neat, fast growing, evergreen tree with a straight, single, upright trunk. Warburgia salutaris gets its popular name from the peppery taste of its leaves and bark. When leaves are crushed, they give a distinct pepper smell.  Pepper-bark tree is an easy grower. In our experience it is not a messy tree, requires little maintenance and is resistant to most garden pests. Warburgia salutaris is slightly frost sensitive. Use it a single trunk shade tree, hedgerow next to your driveway or even a screening tree.
