🔍 The new #DiSAResearchContribution is about Creditor Protection and Tax Avoidance. Exploring the dynamic relationship between debt and non-debt tax shields is crucial in economics, finance, and accounting. How do firms strategically navigate the trade-off to minimize tax burdens? Our recent research sheds light on this question. This paper investigates the impact of legal institutions empowering creditors on firms' choices between tax avoidance and debt financing and how the interaction between creditor protection laws and tax laws affects these incentives. To answer the research question, the authors leverage multiple bankruptcy reforms in Italy from 2003 to 2011, examining changes in creditors. The authors expand the analysis to 33 countries between 2004 and 2013 to further strengthen the findings.
