What a wonderful and sweet indigenous fruit! Two species from the sapotaceae family exist on Bunjako Island (Uganda): 1: Synsepalum brevipes (Baker) T.D. Penn. Synonym: Pachystela brevipes (Baker) 2. Synsepalum cerasiferum (Welw.) T.D. Penn. Synonym: Afrosersalisia cerasifera (Welw.) The above two species are also known as "Nkalati" in Luganda, they are highly cherished for their sweet pulp. However, due to human activities the population of these two species is decreasing at a high rate. As LuTreeCo, we have decided to check on this trend by colleting seeds and propagating them as well as engaging the communities in planting and sensitization about the impacts of climate change and how we can change it for the benefit of all of us!
