Legion playoff roundup: Tabor pounds McCook/Miner in Region 5B

HUMBOLDT -- Tabor scored 20 runs and cruised easily to a 20-5 win in seven innings over McCook/Miner in the opening round of the Region 5B Legion baseball tournament in Humboldt.

HUMBOLDT - Tabor scored 20 runs and cruised easily to a 20-5 win in seven innings over McCook/Miner in the opening round of the Region 5B Legion baseball tournament in Humboldt.

Chase Kortan hit a triple, scored four runs and added three RBIs in the win for Tabor, who scored six runs each in the second and seventh innings. Zach Sutera had a three-RBI game and Hunter Young had four RBIs in the win. Alex Caba scored four runs and Tanner Van Driel and Brendan Bares scored three runs each.

Kortan was the winning pitcher, throwing four innings, allowing four hits, three runs (two earned) and striking out five. Van Driel pitched an inning of relief, allowing two hits and two runs and Bryce Scieszinski threw the final two innings, allowing one hit and no runs.

Cole Gassman had two hits to lead McCook/Miner. Jesse Muth and Trevor Wilkinson each had an RBI in the game. Collin Cleveland ended up taking the loss, allowing seven runs (none earned) and one hit in 1 1/3 innings.

McCook/Miner committed 10 errors in the loss. Tabor had 10 hits, while McCook/Miner had seven hits.

The tournament continues today in Humboldt. Tabor will take on Humboldt/Hartford today in the Region 5B winner's bracket at 7:30 p.m. today. McCook/Miner will take on Alexandria at 5 p.m.

Humboldt/Hartford 16, Alexandria 8

HUMBOLDT-Dylan Masterson went 3-for-5 with two home runs, a triple and five RBIs to lead Humboldt/Hartford past Alexandria 16-8 in the Region 5B Legion baseball tournament on Wednesday in Humboldt.

Joseph Hanisch went 4-for-5 with a triple and four RBIs, while Justin Sebert, Aaron Mallinger and Kobe Moldrem each had a double in the win.

For Alexandria, Levi Doyle took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings pitched.

Aaron Wenande and Tucker Kingsbury each had a double and a single, while Lucas Miller had a double and an RBI. Wenande had two RBIs and Wyatt Kayser added a hit and a run scored.

Alexandria finished the game with six hits and two errors, while Humboldt/Hartford had 17 hits and five errors.

Alexandria will face McCook/Miner in an elimination game at 5 p.m. today in Humboldt, while Humboldt/Hartford faces Tabor at 7:30 in Humboldt.

Region 4B

Winner/Colome 10, Wagner 4

WAGNER - Drew DeMers had three RBIs and scored a pair of runs to lead Winner/Colome to a 10-4 opening round victory Wednesday in the Region 4B Legion baseball tournament over host Wagner.

Matt Campbell added two RBIs and Reed Harter and Kelly O'Bryan each scored two runs in the win, in which Winner/Colome added three runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth inning to pull away.

O'Bryan picked up the win, tossing seven innings, allowing 10 hits, four runs (two earned) and striking out four. Riley Calhoon pitched the final two innings for Winner/Colome.

Derek Soukup was 4-for-5 in the loss for Wagner, while Drue Soukup had three hits and both players had triples in the game. Drue Soukup took the loss for Wagner, throwing six innings, allowing seven hits, nine runs (five earned) and striking out five.

Wagner outhit Winner/Colome 12-10 but committed five errors to Winner/Colome's one.

Winner/Colome takes on Platte/Geddes at 5:30 p.m. today in the opening game at Wagner, while Wagner will meet Gregory/Burke in an elimination game today.

Parkston 14, Gregory/Burke 6

WAGNER-Parkston scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruised to an opening-round win over Gregory/Burke 14-6 at the Region 4B Legion baseball tournament on Wednesday in Wagner.

Jordan McKean had three hits, including a triple, and fished the game with two RBIs, while Andrew Neugebauer also added a triple and two RBIs. Jake DeLange and Alex Scott each had a double, while Jesse Grosdidier and DeLange each had two RBIs in the win.

Grosdidier earned the win on the mound for Parkston. Grosdidier gave up six earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in six innings pitched. Scott pitched the final three innings for Parkston, which finished the game with 14 hits and no errors.

For Gregory/Burke, Robert Vomacka took the loss, allowing 14 runs (five earned) on 14 hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

Seth Pistulka went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, while Jon Bakke and Vomacka each had a double and an RBI in the loss. Gregory finished the game with eight hits and four errors.

Parkston advances to play the winner between Winner/Colome and Platte-Geddes at 3 p.m. on Friday, while Gregory/Burke faces Wagner in an elimination game today in Wagner.
