Description

Vitis Vinifera Vanessa’ is a seedless red grape that is very resistant to mildew. Although deliciously sweet, the grapes are small, which makes it suitable for outdoors. This grape can be kept for quite a long time. It is often cited as the best seedless grape for cold climates. It is a climbing plant that can grow several metres high. You can lead it into all sorts of shapes and keep it very compact by pruning it well. You can easily lead the grape along a pergola or on the wall with tension wires. The grape first produces inconspicuous clusters of flowers in May-June, after which the grape bunches will form. The fruits are light red, with a sweet aromatic taste. You can eat them directly or use them to make jam, juice or wine. The grape plant needs plenty of sun to ripen and loves heat so a south-facing location is ideal. The grapes can be harvested from mid-September onwards. The soil should be well-drained and nutritious and preferably not too acidic, but rather calcareous. Pruning increases the fruit yield and the plant also looks neater. It is best to prune the plant in the period between November and February, but not during severe frost. Prune superfluous side and main branches. This grape variety is Hardy and can withstand temperatures up to -20 degrees.
