Pterodiscus form a very nice caudex, flower very freely and grow quite quickly during the warmer months. You may need to trim back the plant during dormancy, during which they should be kept somewhere warm (a good greenhouse is fine here in Victoria). You can trim as aggressively as you like and they will reshoot again from the caudex in spring.
