Growing and Maintenance Tips:


Rhus aromatica grows best in a slightly acidic, fertile soil and full sun, however, it will tolerate dry or compacted soils, partial shade, and other urban conditions.

Additional Notes about Fragrant Sumac:


While male flowers (catkins) and female flowers appear on the same plant (monoecious), they also can appear on separate plants (dioecious). Male catkins form in late summer and persist throughout the winter, eventually blooming in the spring. Female flowers appear in the summer, changing in late summer to small clusters of hairy red berries which may persist into winter.
