Common Name or Meaning Rensch's Nervilia [German Orchid Enthusiast in 1800's]

Found in Zaire, Burundi, Tanzania, Malawi, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Natal South Africa and Madagascar in brachystegia woodlands and riverine forest fringe at elevations of 100 to 900 meters as a small to medium sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial with a subspherical to ovoid tuber giving rise to a solitary, after flowering, large, prostrate, reniform to almost orbicular, apiculate, glabrous, 11 to 20 veined, heavily pleated, lateral veins strongly curved towards the leaf margin, deeply cordate below into the short petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring through summer on an erect, thick, yellowish-brown to purple, laxly rather densely 3 to 8 flowered inflorescence
