This American Annone is rare in Laos, a few plants can be seen here and there, planted as a curiosity. However, it has a Lao name: mak khan thalot.
The tree is bushier, taller and more symmetrical than the cinnamon apple tree. The fruit is larger and smoother than the cinnamon apple, although it also has a scaly skin. It turns dark red as it ripens. Its flesh, which has the consistency of a thick cream, is not much prized; however, sprinkled with a little cinnamon it is delicious.
The medicinal uses of the Cachiman are identical to those of the cinnamon apple, with the addition of an indication of the leaves in the treatment of certain skin diseases.
For the sake of completeness, we should add that the green fruit and leaves of the Cachiman are used in dyeing, to obtain black and blue colours respectively.
