Species profile and care guide:

Searsia Undulata or the Kuni-bush is a fantastic and interesting species native to Southern Africa, the species has bright green, wavy trifoliate leaves that can be reduced. These evergreen shrubs are vigorous, hardy and beginner friendly, making them excellent Bonsai specimens.

The Kuni-bush is a flowering and fruiting tree, the flowers appear as small clusters of cream coloured flowers that bloom in autumn. The fruit is also rather small with a hard stone fruit seed. These feature add to the overall appeal as a Bonsai making this species a beautiful indigenous specimen.

Position your Kuni-bush in an area that receives full sun however partial shade can be tolerated. Standard Bonsai watering practice applies, do not allow the root mass to become waterlogged and do not let the soil dry out completely. A standard well-draining Bonsai soil mix is preferred. Repotting can be done in late winter/early spring.

Pruning and wiring is standard with this species and general Bonsai techniques apply, however take car when wiring as you can tear branches off from the origination point.
