Bolbitis Heudelotii Characteristics
Bolbitis Heudelotii, or african water fernIs widely distributed in the African tropics, athere grows attached to rocks or wood with its roots, in dew zones and areas of flooding of rivers and streams with fast currents. In West Africa it is often found in the same habitats as the Anubias Barteri varieties.
Like the Java fern (Microsorum Pteropus) and Anubias, Bolbitis Heudelotii has a creeping rhizome, in which the leaves and roots grow. Their submerged leaves are pinnate, transparent and green in color, while the Emerged leaves are simple pinnate, dull green in color and quite hard.
Bolbitis Heudelotii grows best in soft, slightly acidic water, however, it is a relatively undemanding plant and will also grow in moderately hard water. Its propagation is simple and it supports severe pruning.
