A large, very fast growing shrub rarely to 5 m tall with big, soft, deeply lobed leaves and beautiful, large, rose-like flowers in late summer that open white or pink in the morning and change to deep pink or red by evening. Native to southern China (and not the southeastern United States as is commonly believed), Hibiscus mutabilis adapts well to warm temperate climates in USDA Zones 7 to 9.
