A large or medium-sized, fast growing tree to 35 m (115 ft.) tall with a strongly buttressed trunk. It is native to riverine forests in tropical Africa between 900 and 1700 m. The attractive cherry-sized red fruits are edible. Its moderately soft wood is popular for canoes and Pseudospondias microcarpa makes a good shade tree and a nice ornamental for tropical climates.
