This attractive shrub or small tree is a natural hybrid between Syzygium cordatum and Syzygium guineense widely distributed in riverine and rainforests and woodlands in tropical and southern Africa to 2100 m. Its red to blackish, cherry-sized fruits are edible. Syzygium × intermedium is best suited to warm temperate and tropical climates.
