Description

it is an annual herbaceous plant with an erect stem (40 cm), branched, covered with hair. It bears long, thorny, jagged leaves, with evident veins ending in quills; only the basal ones are petiolate. The flowers, gathered in solitary flower heads, are yellow in color, protected by a thorny shell, and appear from spring to summer. It grows spontaneously in the arid uncultivated areas of central-southern Italy, from the plains to the high hills.
