The Latin/scientific name of papaya is Carica papaya L. Papaya is a dicot

Passifloraceae (Morton, 1987). The Caricaceae family consists of 39 species

genus Carica consists of four species namely Carica aprica, Carica augusti, Carica
cnidoscoloides, Carica papaya.
Papaya seeds can survive and have viability for years if stored dry, so it is
very possible for the spread of this plant through seeds. In the mid-16th century,
the Spaniards who explored the world played a role in the spread of papaya by
bringing the seeds to the Caribbean and Southeast Asia (Philippines).
Furthermore, these plants spread to the Pacific, Malacca, India and Africa.
