Lathyrus vernus ‘Heavenly Blues’
DWARF BLUE PEA

Lathyrus vernus ‘Heavenly Blues’ is one of the loveliest of all the dwarf perennial peas.
It has masses of violet blue flowers in spring, just like a Sweet Pea.
But much earlier in spring, and in a great mass of profuse blooms.

Each bloom opens purple–blue, veined with deeper purple, and ages to blue. Giving a beautiful dappled effect.
There may be some variation in colours from this seed, as Lathyrus vernus var. albus (the divine white form) may also appear in this batch (you should be so lucky to get both).

However Lathyrus vernus ‘Heavenly Blues’ is perennial rather than an annual, and dwarf growing.
So it is ideal as a mounding ground cover. Or for trailing out over the edges of a pot, or climbing on a small frame or host shrub.

Lathyrus vernus ‘Heavenly Blues’ enjoys Part Shade in well drained soil, and can also tolerate almost Full Shade, unlike annual Sweet Peas.
It is not fussy about soil type, providing it is well drained.
So can be found growing happily in soils from sandy to clay based; from acid to lime alkaline.
And it is resoundingly frost hardy.

Lathyrus vernus ‘Heavenly Blues’  is a 30cm. High low mounding groundcover (or tiny climber) x 30cm. Wide if left to drape across the ground.
The “vernus” part of it’s botanical name means “Spring” and the dwarf perennial Dwarf Blue Pea certainly is one of the treats of early spring.
