Sylvetta Arugula Seeds - Diplotaxis Tenuifolia - Perennial & Prolific

Quantity: 100+ Seeds

Wild Arugula, aka Diplotaxis Tenuifolia is a real gem. This hardy perennial plant is a member of the cabbage family, Brassicaceae. These plants require very little attention for them to provide an abundance of delicious edible leaves throughout the entire growing season. The leaves taste just like annual varieties of arugula, but are a little bit spicier. The leaves can be eaten at all times of the year, but many people say that the flavour is best in the spring, autumn, and winter. Depending on your growing region, these plants can live for many years. They're determined to self sow too, so if this is an undesired trait, the flowering stalks can be cut back to encourage more leafy growth, and stronger roots.

All seeds are organic and open pollinated.

  • Growing Instructions

Sylvetta Arugula seeds can be started indoors or sown directly in the earth. If started indoors, it's good to sow them in a sterile growing medium; most available seed starting soils should do the job nicely; we use sunshine mix (peat moss and perlite). The soil should be made moist, but not damp. Sow the seeds 1/8 inch below the soil surface, or even on the surface. Store in a warm area until tiny sprouts emerge from the soil. Seeds can take between 2-4 weeks to germinate, but they can sometimes take less time too. Once germinated, and the first true leaf has formed, it's time to pot up to a larger container that contains a good quality potting soil. Transplant to their final location when the nighttime temperatures are consistently 8°C or higher; for us here at the farm, this is around early to mid April. Arugula does best when grown in full sun, but it grows very well (and less spicy) when grown in partial shade.
