Peanuts are fun to grow. They have bright yellow flowers and make nuts underground that you can roast, eat, or turn into healthy peanut butter.
Kids love growing peanuts and the process is pretty neat. After the flowers are pollinated, their stems bend down, poke into the soil, and start turning into peanuts. The fruit mature in 9 to 10 weeks. Harvest them when the foliage turns yellow in late summer. Dig up the plants, hang the plants to dry for a couple of weeks, then pluck off the peanuts.
Peanuts need rich soil with good drainage, regular water, and almost five months of sunshine to mature.
