ClosePincushion Spikemoss is often mistaken for a fern due to its soft, feathery foliage. Though it is not, it grows best in similar exposures, preferring shade or filtered shade and regular watering. This spikemoss looks so incredibly soft and indeed, it cannot handle foot traffic, so best to plant it between larger shade-loving plants, in terrariums, container planters, or hanging baskets designed for the shade. Selaginella doesn't like to dry out and may not survive freezing temps, so it may be happiest in container planters that can be brought under cover in the winter.
