Malus 'Eleyi' Malus 'Eleyi'

Small tree with flat-topped, spherical crown that can grow to 4.5 to 6 m. The crown is densely branched with a slightly irregular shape. The emerging leaves are purple later turning shiny bronze. Blossoming starts around mid-May: the flowers are a deep red. They are 3 to 3.5 cm and produced abundantly. The deep red fruits are ovoid to spherical. They hang on long 2 to 2.5 cm stalks and remain on the tree until into October. ‘Eleyi’ is an ancient cultivar with high ornamental value that is very susceptible to scab, which causes the leaf to fall in early autumn.
