Enhance your garden with the unique and visually appealing Nandina Domestica, commonly known as heavenly bamboo. This rhizomatous, evergreen shrub grows up to 8 feet tall and 4 feet wide and produces an interesting foliage display, as well as stunning fruit throughout the year. The shrub's leaves and erect, cane-like stems resemble bamboo, making it a popular choice among garden enthusiasts. While heavenly bamboo is heat and drought tolerant, it thrives in average, moist, and well-drained soils, and prefers full sun with some afternoon shade. Although it is evergreen in warmer climates, it becomes deciduous in colder areas, with the stems sometimes dying to the ground. Please note that it is not reliably winter hardy to certain regions, like the St. Louis area. The shrub's flowers appear in late spring and are followed by sprays of spherical, two-seeded, red berries which persist from fall to spring, providing winter interest.
