Tall biennial with erect, branched stems.

Grassy habitats, fields, cultivated and fallow ground, roadsides.

Flowers

The flowerheads are sky blue, sometimes pink or white, borne in leafy branched spikes. Each ray floret is fringed.

Leaves

Pinnatisect leaf is deeply lobed, almost to the central midrib, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Basal leaves: lobes almost to central midrib.
