New macrocyclic pyrrolizidine alkaloids and a silphiperfolanol angelate ester were isolated from the Rwandan medicinal herb Solanecio mannii. The relative configuration of senaetnine was determined by NAMFIS analysis. Synthetic modification of 5 provided two new compounds, 2-angeloyloxy-4,8-epoxypresilphiperfolane and 2-angeloyloxy-4,8-epoxypresilphi-perfolane. Some of the compounds showed strong cytotoxicity but weak antibacterial activities.
