Sargent. This is a small e with rather thick, rough, gray bark and smooth twigs. The leaves have from five to nine leaflets, ovate or lanceolate in shape, and sessile or almost so. The wing of the samara runs about halfway down the seed. This tree grows in the valleys of the Red, Assiniboine, Qu'Ap- pelle and Souris rivers, as well as in the Pembina and Moose Mountains and the eastern part of the Dirt Hills.
